About The Position

The Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in organizing and managing all phases of a Division I Men’s Basketball program. This includes recruiting, team travel, strength & conditioning, student-athlete academic monitoring, public speaking, competition scheduling, budget management, and community/donor relations. The role involves coaching the team at practices and competitive events, overseeing the academic and personal well-being of student-athletes, and assisting in building a nationally competitive Division I program through successful recruiting and retention of high-level student-athletes. The coach will collaborate with the Head Coach, Athletic Trainers, and Strength & Conditioning Coach to design academic year and summer conditioning programs. Responsibilities also include reconciling expenses, proposing purchases, serving as a liaison to the University community (engaging in alumni, fundraising, and stakeholder activities), and assisting with organizing community service events. The candidate must be committed to the academic goals of the university and adhere to NCAA and Mountain West Conference rules and guidelines. A demonstrated awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a diverse student population (in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation) through inclusive practices is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent men’s basketball coaching experience
  • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Head Coach, Athletic Trainers, and Strength & Conditioning Coach to design both academic year (in season and out-of-season) and summer conditioning programs.
  • Reconciles expenses and proposes purchases for sports program.
  • Serve as a liaison to the broader (University) community, engaging in alumni, fund raising, and other key stakeholder activities.
  • Assists with organizing community service events for the team.
  • Responsible for assisting in all phases of a Division I intercollegiate men’s basketball program which includes scheduling, recruiting, travel coordination, budgets and fundraising.
  • Must be committed to the academic goals of the university and follow the rules and guidelines set forth by the NCAA and the Mountain West Conference.
