About The Position
At Applewood Our House, we are seeking a creative and high-energy Activity Assistant who understands that meaningful engagement is crucial for residents living with dementia, making their house feel like a home. We operate in a small home setting where your work is impactful and valued. The role involves designing and leading customized programs tailored to residents' cognitive needs and personal histories, using experience to engage residents during critical times to prevent and manage 'sundowning' through redirection and purposeful activity. A key aspect is focusing on deep, individual interactions that respect the dignity and warmth of every resident, and leading residents on outings and excursions to keep them active and connected to the community. The role also includes driving a 14-passenger bus for resident adventures.
Requirements
- Creative and high-energy
- Understands that for residents living with dementia, meaningful engagement is what makes a house a home.
- Deep passion for connecting with seniors through their unique life stories.
- Experience in engaging residents during critical times to prevent and manage 'sundowning'.
- Ability to drive a 14-passenger bus (no special license required).
