About The Position

Under the supervision and direction of the Membership Area Manager, the part-time, seasonal Membership Community Assistant will focus on developing and mastering membership growth skills, achieving council goals for recruiting and retaining youth and adult members within a designated geographic area, supporting and overseeing volunteers, and assisting in the achievement of additional Council and GSUSA objectives as required. This role serves communities in Grant and Hardy Counties, West Virginia, with occasional needs to work or meet in Martinsburg, WV. The position requires delivering Girl Scout programs in community settings and assisting troops with financial assistance requests.

Requirements

  • Experience managing volunteers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to engage effectively in public settings.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and achieve goals both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage resources and projects efficiently.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including frequent evening and weekend meetings and activities.
  • Access to reliable transportation for daily travel within the jurisdiction.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds with ease.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in sales or membership recruitment is a plus.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with Girl Scout experience or those who have worked with volunteers in a leadership capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to achieving Corporate Goals by meeting membership registration targets, including youth engagement, demographic representation, and other identified elements in a designated geographic area.
  • Develop and implement troop recruitment and retention strategies to meet benchmarks and affiliation goals.
  • Support volunteer leadership through regular meetings, timely communication, team-building activities, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and serving as a liaison with council staff.
  • Recruit, appoint, orient, and supervise specific administrative volunteers.
  • Collaborate with volunteers to organize troops by recruiting and retaining leaders, as well as placing youth in troops.
  • Manage administrative volunteer roles when vacancies arise.
  • Research, analyze, and report demographic data to inform recruitment strategies and ensure inclusivity in membership goals across all groups.
  • Track market share and plan for growth where necessary.
  • Train registrars, organizers, and Welcome Specialists, and coordinate the registration process within the assigned area.
  • Deliver Girl Scout programs in community settings (some examples are community centers, schools, places of worship).
  • Assist troops in requesting financial assistance for troop dues and shop supplies.
