As a Member Services Associate at Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO), you will play a crucial role in delivering excellent service to our cooperative members in Lafayette, LA. This position involves processing payments, maintaining precise account information, and ensuring the efficient distribution of mail and correspondence. Your responsibilities will include receiving and applying member payments using Opex and Aperta software systems, assisting with service applications, and processing disconnection requests. You will also handle miscellaneous service orders, address member inquiries, and ensure smooth cashier operations. Your ability to maintain accurate consumer account data and facilitate communication within departments will be vital to sustaining positive member relationships and enhancing daily operational efficiency. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to troubleshoot common computer and hardware issues
  • Ability to reconcile assigned general ledger accounts
  • Basic accounting, mathematics, and data-entry skills
  • Proficiency with 10-key calculator, keyboard, and other standard office equipment
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to create and interpret reports
  • Communicate clearly with members and co-workers
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle conflict in stressful situations
  • Reliable attendance, flexibility, and strong teamwork orientation
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills to operate computers and office machinery
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Requires good listening skills and attention to detail in member interactions

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or college coursework in Business Administration, Accounting, or Mathematics
  • Continuing education in computer applications such as Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and database systems
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training in a related field considered
  • Experience as a utility billing associate or lead role within a utility or government agency desired
  • Knowledge of utility billing procedures and related software systems
