About The Position

The New Canaan YMCA is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and engaging candidates to join their team as Member Relations Staff. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy interacting with people and providing excellent customer service at the YMCA Front Desk. The position focuses on maintaining a superior member service program, fostering positive member relationships, and ensuring a safe and smoothly operating facility. The staff member will also support member recruitment, retention, and communication efforts in collaboration with the Director of Membership Engagement and Communication. The role requires a positive, friendly, and cheerful attitude, a neat appearance, comfort with computers, strong interpersonal skills, and a team-player mentality. A working knowledge of membership and program data systems is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a member service program focused on superior member service and positive member relationships.
  • Ensure the provision of a safe, smooth-running facility.
  • Support member recruitment, retention, and communication efforts.
  • Serve as the primary salesperson and public relations representative for the New Canaan YMCA.
  • Communicate details of memberships, programs, events, and facility information to members.
  • Direct member communication using provided resources like staff directories, class schedules, and facility boards.
  • Perform key computer functions in the DAXKO system, including member/non-member creation, program enrollment, payment processing, and account updates.
  • Channel questions to the appropriate person or department when necessary.
  • Stay informed of all program and facility updates, changes, and cancellations.
  • Maintain alertness and appropriately direct all visitors at the membership check-in.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with the VAC system, including creating YAWAY Guests.
  • Answer phones promptly and professionally.
  • Report any misuse of the YMCA facilities.
  • Channel communications accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Answer questions about the YMCA's facilities, memberships, programs, and policies.
  • Make appropriate referrals to professional staff members.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of facility issues and problems, attempting to resolve them.
  • Assist in maintaining internal membership communications regarding facility changes and updates.
  • Advise the supervisor of any irregularities.
  • Circulate the building as needed.
  • Serve as a backup for opening and closing the building and assume walkie-talkie duties.
  • Keep the front desk neat, clean, and organized.
  • Handle money and receipts responsibly.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as time permits.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
