Member of Technical Staff

FluidstackSan Francsisco, CA
$150,000 - $250,000

About The Position

Fluidstack is building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI, aiming to deliver 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else. This involves rethinking every layer of the stack, from acquiring power and designing data centers to operating them. The company hires individuals who are deeply committed to this mission and operate with high ownership, autonomy, velocity, and a first-principles approach. The Software Engineering Team is tackling complex problems such as automating site design from vendor materials, creating a live, self-updating model of project delivery schedules, and building an agent platform with robust authorization and guardrails to enable AI agents to actively develop infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Ability to move toward ambiguity, build maps in unclear situations, and explain them to others.
  • Capacity to learn at a steep slope and achieve competence in unfamiliar domains quickly.
  • Demonstrated taste in abstraction, identifying core primitives and knowing when not to abstract.
  • Rigor in modeling domains, with experience learning from past mistakes.
  • Skill in extracting structure from messy, unstructured data, applicable to ML, data engineering, or research.
  • Fluency with AI tooling, including LLM APIs, MCP servers, and agentic frameworks.
  • Experience shipping production code that others depend on.
  • Comfort in any language when using AI coding tools.

Nice To Haves

  • MLE work, especially extraction and synthesis from unstructured data.
  • Experience with workflow and orchestration engines (Temporal, Cadence, Airflow).
  • Familiarity with Geospatial (KMZ/GIS) or BIM (Revit, IFC).
  • Experience with authorization and policy engines (OPA, Zanzibar-style, RBAC/ABAC).
  • Knowledge of audit or event-sourcing systems.
  • Proficiency in Go, TypeScript, and Postgres.

Responsibilities

  • Build core primitives end to end, including entity ownership, audit, authorization, and orchestration, ensuring the right actions are the default and wrong actions are difficult.
  • Own the domain model, transforming Fluidstack's world of power, datacenters, and chips into composable entities that remain robust over time.
  • Define and manage interactions with the outside world, interfacing with vendor systems and ingesting diverse formats like KMZ, BIM, Revit, and vendor documentation.
  • Develop AI agents as first-class operators of the systems, providing them with the necessary tools, guardrails, and audit trails for safe operation, moving beyond mere advisory roles.

Benefits

  • Competitive total compensation package (salary + equity)
  • Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms
  • Equity in the form of stock options
