About The Position

Eventual is a startup founded in 2022 to address the challenges of processing massive volumes of multimodal data for AI applications. Their open-source engine, Daft, is designed for real-world AI systems, coordinating with external APIs, managing GPU clusters, and handling failures. Daft is already used by companies like Amazon, Mobileye, Together AI, and CloudKitchens. The company has a world-class team and is seeking to double its size with Series A and seed funding. They emphasize a tight-knit team environment, working together 4 days a week in their SF Mission district office.

Requirements

  • Strong engineers who are problem-solvers at heart.
  • Excellent coding and architectural fundamentals in languages like Rust, C++, Python, or Go.
  • A drive to reach for lower-level primitives when performance and efficiency demand it.
  • A technical spike in at least one of the specialized focus areas (Production ML/AI Deployment, Large-Scale Distributed Systems & Query Engines, Computer Vision & Multimodal Media, Computer Graphics & Spatial Computing).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building and training state-of-the-art models (LLMs, VLMs, VLAs, CV models, world models).
  • Distributed training experience.
  • Familiarity with inference optimization (batching, GPU utilization, TensorRT/ONNX Runtime, streaming data loaders) to minimize latency and maximize throughput.
  • Deep experience with inference frameworks (VLLM, SGLang) or building your own.
  • Hands-on experience building, scaling, or optimizing distributed data/analytical engines (e.g., Apache Spark, BigQuery, Hadoop, Snowflake, Ray, or custom execution engines).
  • Understanding of distributed engine internals: query planning, logical/physical optimization, batch job scheduling, memory management, and execution pipelining.
  • Practical experience operating and maintaining production search or indexing clusters (e.g., Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Vector DBs) and managing underlying infrastructure/cloud resources.
  • Experience handling unstructured or high-dimensional data (images, video streams, point clouds, audio).
  • Familiarity with video/image decoding pipelines, frame extraction, or feature representation at scale.
  • Conceptual or hands-on experience with 3D graphics concepts, game engines (Unreal, Unity, Custom C++/Vulkan/WebGL engines), spatial indexes, or GPU acceleration.
  • Comfort reasoning about spatial transformations, matrix operations, or rendering primitives.
  • Experience working with spatial computing, augmented/virtual environments (AR/VR/AV), or 3D graphics applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build highly reliable and resilient products and features.
  • Work closely with cross-functional product and customer-facing teams to understand requirements and ship thoughtful solutions.
  • Write high-quality, extensible, and maintainable code.
  • Design and build scalable applications and components.
  • Design and build APIs to drive existing and new features for a web-based BYOC enterprise product.
