About The Position

At SF Tensor, we're building the future of high-performance compute. We firmly believe that the future of AI depends on rethinking and rebuilding the stack from the hardware to the cloud. We aim to eliminate the friction that slows down AI research by making compute faster, cheaper, and more available. Our Kernel Optimizer transforms code into its fastest form for any vendor and cluster topology, while the Model Foundry simplifies research by managing runs, facilitating experimentation, and enabling seamless workload migration across clouds and chips. We are backed by prominent investors and are seeking individuals who believe in the necessity of compute advancements for AI progress. This role focuses on the product engineering aspect of our Model Foundry, which serves as the primary interface for researchers. Model Foundry enables researchers to go from idea to running experiment with a single commit or message. It handles configuration, job queuing on appropriate silicon, log streaming, and versioning for reproducibility. The goal is to create an end-to-end experience that is not only functional but also enjoyable, even during intensive usage. The users, including customers and our internal research team, are readily accessible, providing a short feedback loop. The role involves processing vast amounts of telemetry data from thousands of GPUs across various vendors, parsing complex logs and charts, and ensuring data accessibility for users and their agents.

Requirements

  • Proven experience shipping complete products, ideally something you can show us
  • Real taste and a sharp eye for design and motion
  • Solid backend skills, capable of building APIs and troubleshooting production issues
  • Sufficient infrastructure comfort to handle AWS, containers and Kubernetes (shouldn't be scared of a Dockerfile)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Bun or an eagerness to dive in
  • Background in developer tools, infrastructure products or building for technical users
  • Any exposure to ML training workflows or tools like Weights & Biases, Ray or Slurm
  • Comfortable using Figma to mock up things yourself when needed

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of product areas in Model Foundry: scoping, designing, building and iterating on them
  • Build clean, fast and polished web interfaces with NextJS that feel almost native
  • Design the surfaces where researchers live: run dashboards, live log streaming, experiment comparison, eval results, cluster and storage views
  • Build the conversational and commit-driven entry points into Foundry, where a Slack message or commit become a training run
  • Obsess over the small things, from loading states to smooth animations and the edge cases that turn a good product into an exceptional one
  • Work directly with our forward-deployed researcher and our own training team
  • Make smart product tradeoffs with little hand-holding, which means knowing when to ship fast and when to spend extra time polishing

Benefits

  • Meaningful equity
  • Relocation assistance
