About The Position
Vapi is seeking a dedicated Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join its five-person Infrastructure team. This role requires a software-first engineer who can build tooling and automation, improve observability, and translate operational lessons into lasting engineering improvements. The position focuses on deep reliability and operability judgment within latency-sensitive systems at a meaningful scale. The role is based in San Francisco.
Requirements
- Senior or staff-level software engineer with meaningful SRE, production engineering, or infrastructure experience in distributed systems.
- Ability to write production-quality software.
- Experience building reliability tooling or automation.
- Deep experience with observability, incident response, failure analysis, capacity, and practices that keep production systems healthy.
- Comfort with Kubernetes, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
- Ability to debug across application and infrastructure boundaries.
- Ability to reason clearly about failure modes.
- Ability to balance reliability investments with product and engineering velocity.

Responsibilities
- Learn Vapi’s architecture, production environment, incident history, and reliability practices within the first 30 days.
- Contribute an initial operational or reliability improvement.
- Own a reliability workstream across observability, incident response, capacity, performance, or production automation within 60 days.
- Reduce manual work and improve how the team detects, understands, and responds to failures.
- Become the go-to owner for a meaningful part of Vapi’s reliability surface within 90 days.
- Deliver a durable improvement to failure prevention or recovery.
- Propose a roadmap for the next reliability investments.
