About The Position

Footprint is building an agentic platform that learns and executes compliance programs end-to-end for banks and fintechs. The platform addresses the overwhelming volume of financial crime investigations by automating tasks traditionally done manually. It features an agentic system, Percy, that learns team procedures to clear false positives, escalate risk, write case narratives, and document decisions. The underlying identity infrastructure is designed for complex, compounding data, ensuring patterns are surfaced automatically across various compliance areas. The company is well-backed, trusted by regulated institutions, and has experienced significant revenue growth. The team is described as small, senior, and fast-shipping.

Requirements

• 4+ years designing, building, and operating backend systems under real load, including debugging them.
• Experience shipping and operating an API that engineers on other teams or outside the company build against, and handling compatibility issues when changes were necessary.
• Consideration for privacy, security, and trust from the initial design phase.
• Ability to reason clearly about tradeoffs and identify unlikely failure modes.
• Experience owning a service in production, including being the person paged for issues.
• Willingness to concede one's own design for a better one and ship it.

Nice To Haves

• Production Rust experience, or deep systems experience with a strong desire to learn Rust.
• Background in real-world cryptography or systems security.
• Experience designing APIs or SDKs used by external developers.
• Familiarity with KYC and identity verification.

Responsibilities

• API and service design for Rust APIs and services powering verification, vaulting, and Percy's investigation checks.
• End-to-end ownership of product areas, including data model, architectural decisions, and deployment.
• Ensuring the correctness, reliability, and security posture of services, as customers include banks, fintechs, and their auditors.
• Defining and developing excellence in the agent-shaped investigation services, which are a newer and less settled part of the backend.
