Member of Technical Staff - AI Agent Systems

Warp•South San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Warp Sciences is building scientific infrastructure in the United States to accelerate the discovery of new medicines by bringing together AI, robotics, and life sciences in increasingly automated laboratories. The company builds infrastructure for research teams rather than maintaining a proprietary drug pipeline. The Member of Technical Staff, AI Agent Systems will build and advance a fleet of AI agents that helps develop, maintain, and improve Warp’s software and robotics systems. The role focuses on agents, harnesses, and coordination infrastructure for a software factory that can improve engineering workflows and support better experiments. The position is suited to an AI-native builder and systems thinker who can use frontier AI tools, understand large software systems, and turn emerging agent capabilities into reliable workflows across cloud and edge environments.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering foundations and experience building, debugging, and maintaining substantial software systems.
  • Deep expertise using frontier AI tools and orchestrating swarms of agents for difficult agent-driven software development and production tasks.
  • Experience building or customizing agents, agent harnesses, communication protocols, or systems combining models, tools, context, and execution.
  • Strong systems thinking, including understanding dependencies across components, identifying interface breakdowns, and making sound architectural decisions.
  • Strong experimental instincts and ability to evaluate whether an agent, workflow, or coordination strategy improves outcomes.
  • Experience working closely with other engineers to ship and operate a shared software product.
  • Good judgment about verification, permissions, deployment, and when human oversight is needed.
  • High ownership and enthusiasm for problems where the right approach is not obvious.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with agent evaluation, execution tracing, failure analysis, and reproducible benchmarks.
  • Experience with context management, memory, retrieval, and tool design for long-running agents.
  • Experience with large software products, distributed systems, and complex codebases.
  • Experience with developer infrastructure, CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment.
  • Experience with cloud-to-edge systems, robotics software, simulation, or hardware integration.
  • Experience with sandboxed execution, permissions, and recovery for autonomous workflows.
  • Experience with human-agent collaboration and workflows for reviewing agent-generated work.
  • Experience improving agent behavior through data, feedback, or model adaptation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, customize, and operate agents and agent harnesses for substantial software engineering work, including implementation, testing, debugging, maintenance, and integration.
  • Build infrastructure for coordinating teams of agents, including task decomposition, shared context, tool access, communication, review, and handoffs.
  • Develop and empirically evaluate communication and coordination policies, including when agents should work independently, share information, ask for help, or escalate to a human.
  • Connect agent workflows to development infrastructure, including repositories, CI, simulation, deployment systems, telemetry, and robotics tools.
  • Work across the product stack, from cloud services and data infrastructure to edge software and robot execution, integrating critical components into a coherent system.
  • Improve the software factory by analyzing agent execution and failures, identifying interventions, and making agent workflows more capable and reliable.
