Member of Operations Staff, First Finance Hire
About The Position
This will be Edison’s first dedicated finance hire, someone who can fully own Edison's financial operating system. While we are small, the business is growing fast: real revenue, complex deals with top pharma and bio companies, and emerging products with evolving pricing. We are looking for someone who can build the core financial model, oversee our books, manage our compute spend, and ensure our deals align with where the business is headed. You will have your hands in all of this and have to be comfortable with defining the bigger picture and owning the day-to-day execution of small details. This is uniquely a strategic and operational role. We want a financial generalist excited to roll up their sleeves to do whatever needs to be done. You likely have been at a start-up and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You should have a strong executive presence and can command a room. You are opinionated and unafraid to share your recommendations. You are hungry, incredibly curious, and excited to learn. And bonus points if you have worked in life sciences previously. The role is in-person and based in our San Francisco or New York office, with a strong preference for our San Francisco office.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in operations, consulting, finance, or a similar business-side role.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling experience.
- Executive level communication skills.
- Comfort working in ambiguity, context-switching, and high intensity.
- Actively uses AI tools to create leverage across daily work: automating tasks, optimizing workflows, and directing agents where appropriate.
- Strong interest in AI for science.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in a high-growth startup or early-stage company.
- Experience in pharma and/or life sciences.
Responsibilities
- Own Edison’s books.
- Build and maintain the financial model, cash forecast, and runway view.
- Report on spend by team, vendor, and program so leadership can see where the money is going.
- Own revenue recognition, invoicing, and collections on pharma and biotech contracts.
- Own the finance stack (ERP, billing, procurement, expense) and keep it simple.
- Partner on payroll, benefits, and equity administration.
- Support headcount planning and budgeting with each function lead.
- Model major commitments (compute, data acquisition, facilities).
- Support and advise on commercial deals on pricing, structure, and margin.
- Prepare board and investor reporting.
