Member and Wellness Engagement Director -- Trussville YMCA

YMCA•Trussville, AL
•$47,569 - $50,546•Onsite

About The Position

The Member Engagement and Wellness Director leads the team that makes sure every person who walks through our doors, whether they're here for the first time or the thousandth, feels known, welcomed, and cared about. You'll own the full member experience, recruiting, training, and developing a team that delivers it, building programming that genuinely helps families, seniors, and adults live healthier lives, and managing the budget that makes it all possible. Wellness operations are part of that picture too, led day to day by the Wellness Coordinator, who reports to you. This is a role for someone who leads through their team rather than trying to do it all themselves, who knows their numbers and uses them to make real decisions, and who treats safety and child protection as non-negotiable, every time, no shortcuts. We're looking for someone with real supervisory experience, a genuine customer service heart, and the ability to build relationships across departments, with donors, and with the community. If you want a job where your leadership directly shapes whether people feel like they belong here, we'd love to talk.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous supervisory experience in customer service preferred
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from all segments of the community
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation and the ability to build effective relationships with departments, donors, and volunteers
  • Flexibility to support time-sensitive program and service activities, such as special events
  • Successful completion of background and Child Abuse and Neglect screening
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of start date (via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or ASHI; valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
  • Required online training modules completed before start date and repeated annually

Nice To Haves

  • A leader who builds and develops a team rather than doing it all alone
  • A customer service mindset and a natural gift for relationships
  • Comfort with budgets, data, and using numbers to guide decisions
  • The ability to connect with people from every social and economic background
  • Flexibility to step in when events and time-sensitive programs need you
  • A firm commitment to safety and child protection

Responsibilities

  • Build a welcoming, safe, member-focused culture that drives recruitment and retention
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and develop staff and volunteers, including supervising the Wellness Coordinator
  • Create and grow programs for families, seniors, and adults, and coordinate registration

  • Lead wellness programs, including health coaching, personal training, chronic disease initiatives, and new member onboarding
  • Support marketing and represent the Y at community events and partnerships
  • Oversee Child Watch, Kids Night Out, front desk operations, and facility presentation
  • Plan and manage the membership, wellness, and family programming budget, including fee collection
  • Be visibly involved with members, volunteers, and staff in a positive, friendly way that reflects YMCA core values
  • Be present and available for programs, including nights and weekends
  • Attend all leadership team meetings, Membership Engagement and Childcare cabinets, board meetings, and other required activities
  • Support the Annual Campaign and empower your staff to participate
  • Ensure compliance with risk management, quality standards, child abuse prevention, and safety policies across all program areas
  • Follow policies on boundaries with children and teens, complete abuse risk management training annually, and report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior
  • As a supervisor, follow employee and volunteer screening requirements, provide ongoing supervision, training, and regular feedback on boundaries with children and teens, and hold your team to abuse risk policies and procedures

Benefits

  • Choice of two BlueCross BlueShield medical plans, plus dental and vision
  • A 12% employer retirement contribution once you're eligible, no match required on your part
  • Up to 4 weeks of PTO your first year, plus 10 paid holidays
  • Up to 6 weeks of paid family and medical leave
  • Free YMCA membership for you and your household, plus discounts on programs, childcare, and Camp Cosby
