This individual will teach the Medicine, Healthcare, & Bioscience course in the St. Louis CAPS Program by facilitating a working relationship with students and a local partner medical system/healthcare provider. The teacher will provide students in this program the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with durable skills and topics in the areas of professionalism, communication, time management, and project management. The course is ideal for students who are interested in exploring vast career options in the medical field, ranging from nursing and nurse practitioners to physical & occupational therapists to physicians and pharmacists. The teacher and medical professionals work in tandem to help the student understand both their own interests and the breadth of available career options - crucial elements for students to make appropriate post-secondary education decisions. Students who choose Medicine, Healthcare, & Bioscience will be able to see and experience many areas of healthcare service. Students explore careers of interest through a multitude of activities, including regular interaction with healthcare professionals (site visits, guest lecturers, job shadowing, mentorship, etc.) at hospital partner locations and other healthcare business partner sites. Students work on authentic projects in partnership with healthcare professionals. Students develop industry-specific skills that can enrich an internship experience.
