About The Position

The Medication Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of residents by administering medications safely and accurately, providing essential personal care, and managing the wellness staffing schedule. This position is integral to fostering a supportive and dignified environment for all residents within the senior living community.

Requirements

  • Must maintain certification in the state where you work if required.
  • Satisfactory completion of state-required education/certificates/testing in relation to medication aides as well as the company medication aide skills competency checklist.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
  • Be in good physical health and free of communicable diseases.
  • Lifting, bending, and pushing medication cart about residence is required.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Completion of drug testing and criminal background check upon hire and upon request of supervisor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Assisted Living preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer or assist with the administration and/or supervision of medications to residents in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Provide physical and psychosocial care to all residents, promoting dignity, choice, and individuality.
  • Oversee the wellness staffing schedule, including planning the schedule in advance and participating in an on-call rotation to find coverage for open shifts.
  • Administer or assist with or supervise the administration of medications according to physician orders.
  • Document medications administered on the MAR accurately and completely.
  • Conduct change of shift reports.
  • Maintain security of medication cart and narcotic keys, and conduct narcotic counts.
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, toileting, eating, ambulation/mobility).
  • Work collaboratively with peers and other team members.
  • Maintain professional demeanor when interacting with residents and families.
  • Report suspected or witnessed instances of abuse immediately.
  • Utilize safe transfer techniques.
  • Observe and report changes in residents’ physical condition and cognitive/emotional status.
  • Assist residents with swallowing difficulty with eating.
  • Respond to emergencies promptly and calmly.
  • Understand and use Standard Precautions, OSHA's Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens standard, and follow established safety procedures.
  • Ensure cleanliness of residents' rooms and report safety and sanitation violations.
  • Document provision of services.
  • Operate designated medical equipment, copy, scan, fax machines, and telephone.
  • Be available by phone 24/7 while on-call and able to fill open shifts if needed.
