Medication Technician - Part-time, Assisted Living - Newport News
About The Position
The Medication Technician performs tasks essential to the direct care of the resident in an assisted living facility. This role operates under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor/Manager and is ultimately responsible to the Director of Assisted Living. Key responsibilities include medication administration, taking vital signs, providing personal care, and offering nutrition support, all while adhering to facility policies, regulatory requirements from the Department of Social Services for Assisted Living Facilities, and the Scope of Practice defined by the Department of Social Services and the Department of Health.
Requirements
- Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire
- Medication Aide - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days
- First Aid - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days
Nice To Haves
- High School Diploma or GED
- Less than 1 year of experience
- Food Handlers Card (FH) - VA State - ANSI-approved Food Handlers certificate program
Responsibilities
- Administers and documents medications and treatments according to scheduled times and medication administration protocols.
- Maintains confidentiality of resident and employee information.
- Ensures the cleanliness, organization, and restocking of the medication room and medication cart.
- Obtains accurate vital signs and weights.
- Reports changes in resident behavior, activities of daily living, or other signs/symptoms of change in condition to the nursing leader and/or provider.
- Acts within the scope of Certified Nursing Assistant and Registered Medication Aide in Assisted Living.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or other management staff.
