About The Position

The medication history technician (MHT) is responsible for accurately obtaining and entering current patient medications and allergies into the hospital's electronic medical record for utilization by the physicians responsible for admitting and discharging the patient from the hospital. The MHT is also responsible for relaying or escalating any medication related issues that they cannot address to the pharmacist and/or physician. This position also performs limited medication management and distribution duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of retail/hospital pharmacy experience required.
  • One year of computer experience required.
  • Licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Virginia Department of Health Professions required.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required.
  • Familiarity with commonly prescribed medications, brand/generic names, use, doses, frequencies, and dosage forms required.
  • Excellent computer skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under pressure with other healthcare professionals required.
  • Ability to handle difficult patient and family situations commonly seen in the acute care setting, including ED required.
  • Must directly interact with patients presenting with acute illness, with competence and compassion.
