About The Position

Provides quality nursing care to SVP adult residents within the scope of certification. This role involves administering medication, supporting nurses, and assisting with direct care and general supervision of residents. The Medication Aide will identify and respond to patients' immediate personal needs, interact with residents to ensure continuity of care and safety, and assist professional staff in providing therapeutic activities within a psychosocial treatment environment. Adherence to and support of residents' recovery by following their individualized treatment plans is essential.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology, record keeping and general principles and practices of nursing
  • Knowledge of medical devices to obtain complete vital signs
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and maintain professional boundaries while interacting with residents
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Strong organization and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work shifts; working overtime hours or shifts as required to provide care
  • Ability to work with people (teamwork)
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Ability to understand and follow written policies and procedures
  • May be exposed to aggressive residents
  • Walking and/or standing for up to 8 hours or more; bending and lifting
  • Has a full understanding of infection control as it relates to the facility and the career chosen
  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and developmental processes

Nice To Haves

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Medication Aide Certificate with the Virginia Board of Nursing preferred
  • Current and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate with the Virginia Board of Nursing preferred
  • Experience in a health care facility, acute care or long-term care, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Administer medication
  • Support and assist nurses to promote safety and delivery of quality care for residents
  • Give direct care and general supervision to residents
  • Identify and respond to patients' immediate personal needs
  • Communicate and interact with residents throughout all shifts daily to ensure continuity of care and safety
  • Assist professional staff in providing therapeutic activities in a psychosocial treatment environment
  • Adhere to and support residents’ recovery by following their individualized treatment
  • Prepare, administer and document medication in accordance with regulations set forth from the Virginia Department of Health Professions and supervision of a Licensed Nurse
  • Efficiently report incidents and changes in residents’ condition to supervising nurse
  • Chart care provisions
  • Comply with and promote all rules regarding residents’ rights
