About The Position

The Medication Aide supports resident health and well-being by safely administering medications under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. This role ensures accurate preparation, administration, and documentation of medications in accordance with established procedures and resident-specific care plans. Working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care team, the Medication Aide helps maintain a therapeutic, person-centered environment by monitoring residents for changes in condition, communicating concerns promptly, and supporting daily care needs. When required, the position may also assist with CNA duties to help ensure consistent, high-quality resident care within a supportive, team-oriented setting.

Requirements

  • Current North Dakota MedAide II or MedAide III certification
  • Current North Dakota CNA certification
  • CPR certified
  • Must be organized
  • Good communication skills
  • The Medication Aide frequently stands, walks, bends, and reaches while providing resident care and administering medications.
  • The role requires the ability to assist with resident mobility, support transfers, and occasionally lift or move supplies or equipment.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential for reading medication labels, operating medication carts, and communicating with residents and nursing staff.
  • Work occurs in a long-term care environment with routine exposure to illness, cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, and varying resident behaviors.
  • The role requires adherence to infection-prevention practices, PPE requirements, and safety protocols.
  • The setting may include moderate noise, frequent interruptions, and periods of high activity, requiring flexibility, calmness, and strong situational awareness.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 2 years CNA experience preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications to residents in accordance with the 5 rights of medication administration and under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
  • Prepare, document, and track medications accurately, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to facility policies and regulatory standards.
  • Observe residents for potential side effects, changes in condition, or concerns related to medication use, promptly reporting findings to the supervising nurse.
  • Maintain medication carts, supplies, and work areas in an organized, clean, and secure manner to support safe medication handling.
  • Assist with resident care activities, including CNA-level tasks, when needed to support consistent and efficient unit operations.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members to promote understanding, comfort, and person-centered care.
