About The Position

The Medicare pharmacy technician is responsible for making phones calls to members to support them with getting their prescriptions refilled. Responsibilities also include identification of medication adherence barriers and assisting with resolution of the identified barrier. The technician will work with the medication adherence team to support achievement of the overall pharmacy Stars goal.

Requirements

  • 2+ years related work experience.
  • 1+ year in pharmacy operations, hospitals, or retail; call center or MTM/adherence experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED

  • CPhT - Cert Pharmacy Technician
  • Understanding of Medicare Part D, formulary, step-care, prior authorization, quantity limits, and therapeutic categories.
  • Strong verbal/written skills, active listening, empathy, and ability to explain complex medical/pharmacy terms clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison (SME) between the Medicare members and the plan to improve medication adherence and support achievement of the plan’s Stars goals.
  • Research alternative phone numbers for members when unable to reach due to inaccurate contact information.
  • Manage daily reports and call lists that identify members needing a prescription refill.
  • Initiate phone calls to members to encourage them to refill their prescriptions.
  • Build rapport, influence members and their care givers to improve adherence with prescribed medications.
  • Identify and address barriers preventing members from being adherent with their medications.
  • Identify adherence issues that require escalation to a pharmacist and facilitate the escalation process.
  • Contact pharmacies or doctor’s offices to facilitate getting the prescription refills as needed.
  • Record member interventions.
  • Support the medication adherence pharmacists with ad-hoc outreach as needed.
  • Effectively manage internal and external communications.
  • Collaborate with the MTM team, other pharmacy and Stars team members to achieve the Stars goals
