About The Position

The Medicare Billing Assistant III in the Government Unit is responsible for reviewing, correcting, and completing billings to ensure accurate and complete billing for Medicare and Managed Medicare payers. Uses multiple databases and applications to analyze information or documents received and take appropriate action. The applications and databases include EPIC, Hospital Rates, CIRIUS, RevCyclePro, Imaging, DDE, and various payer sites. Regular contact is maintained with Patient Financial Services staff, department, and management, as well as patients, billing and professional fees, and collection service vendors. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The hourly rate of pay $31.72 - $44.69. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six or more months of experience in a hospital or medical billing office environment or a certificate from an accredited medical billing program.
  • Knowledge of ICD, CPT4, HCPCS, DRG, Revenue, APC Groupers and/or Medi-cal billing codes.
  • Knowledge of hospital contracts, insurance billing requirements, UB04 claim forms, Medicare, Medi-cal, Managed Medicare/Medi-cal, and compliance program regulations.
  • Knowledge of electronic billing processes.
  • Knowledge of computer operation, keyboard functions, adding machine, copy machine, and fax machine operation.
  • Good analytical, organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and written procedures.
  • Must be a motivated individual with a positive attitude and exceptional work ethic.
  • Computer software skills (i.e. Microsoft Applications and E-mail, etc.).
  • The ability to work onsite in Emeryville.

Nice To Haves

  • EPIC experience.
  • Medical terminology experience.
  • Understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.
