About The Position

In this role, you will provide secure armed transportation and supervision of residents requiring medical appointments, hospital visits, emergency treatment, specialty care, or outside healthcare services while ensuring compliance with government detention standards, transportation procedures, and security protocols. You will be responsible for maintaining resident accountability, operational safety, and effective coordination with healthcare providers, detention personnel, and transportation staff during all medical transport activities. This position requires strong situational awareness, professionalism, sound judgment, communication skills, and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies within both secure and public healthcare environments.

Requirements

  • Must possess an active Arizona state Armed Security license.
  • All qualified, armed employees working as transportation officers shall have a minimum of one year of experience as a law enforcement officer, military policeman, or as a security officer engaged in functions related to detaining civil or administrative aliens.
  • A degree in a related or appropriate field/discipline may substitute for experience (i.e., detention, corrections, criminal justice, etc.).
  • Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
  • If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
  • Must consent to fingerprinting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Safely escort and transport residents to hospitals, medical appointments, specialty clinics, emergency rooms, mental health facilities, and other approved healthcare locations while maintaining security and resident accountability at all times.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of transport vehicles, restraints, medical transport equipment, communication devices, and operational supplies to ensure readiness and compliance.
  • Monitor resident behavior, medical conditions, and security concerns during transportation activities while responding appropriately to emergencies, disturbances, escape risks, or operational incidents.
  • Apply and monitor restraints in accordance with facility policies, transportation procedures, and approved security protocols during resident movement operations.
  • Coordinate transportation schedules, appointment logistics, emergency response activities, and resident movement procedures with healthcare personnel, detention staff, hospitals, and outside agencies.
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs, resident movement documentation, medical escort records, mileage reports, and operational paperwork related to medical transport activities.
  • Conduct searches of residents, transport vehicles, medical equipment, and operational areas for contraband, prohibited items, or safety concerns in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Operate communication equipment including radios, phones, emergency notification systems, and transportation tracking systems during transport assignments.
  • Ensure all transportation operations comply with government detention standards, healthcare confidentiality requirements, transportation regulations, and facility security procedures.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, vehicle incidents, operational disruptions, or resident behavioral concerns while coordinating emergency response procedures and notifying supervisory personnel.
  • Coordinate with medical providers, detention leadership, transportation supervisors, behavioral health personnel, and law enforcement agencies regarding resident healthcare transport operations.
  • Maintain professionalism, strong observational skills, effective communication, and sound decision-making while supporting safe and secure resident medical transportation operations.
