About The Position

Olympic Medical Center is seeking Medical Technologists/Histotechnologists to join their team. This is a full-time, 100% FTE position with evening shifts. The role involves performing patient testing accurately, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Responsibilities include managing quality control, handling critical and STAT values, and troubleshooting instrument malfunctions. The position requires interaction with laboratory and hospital information systems and participation in quality assurance initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive attitude towards change and a team-oriented approach to workflow. The location offers abundant recreational opportunities on Washington State's North Olympic Peninsula.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a related field.
  • Board registered with one of the national registries associated with laboratory practice (ASCP, NCA, NRCC, or AAM).
  • Experience with laboratory computer information systems.
  • Experience with quality control and quality assurance practices in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience with CLIA, CAP, or other regulatory standards and guidelines for laboratory practice.
  • Experience in performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures in areas such as hematology, microbiology, chemistry, immunology, and blood banking.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient testing in an organized and efficient manner, ensuring accuracy of reporting, timeliness of analyses, and cost-effective processes.
  • Perform quality control protocol and evaluate quality control data, including following established protocols, documentation, and recognizing/resolving out-of-control scenarios.
  • Follow established guidelines and protocols for test reporting, including proper handling of critical values, STAT values, and recognition/resolution of problem scenarios.
  • Interact with laboratory information system (LIS) and hospital information system (HIS) computer functions related to testing and reporting.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward changes in testing and a team approach to work volume and flow.
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance initiatives.
  • Perform and complete defined equipment and instrument maintenance protocols.
  • Follow manufacturer and/or department defined instrument set-up procedures prior to testing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve instrument malfunctions to ensure real-time availability of equipment.
  • Manage the efficient and cost-effective use of supplies and reagents inventory and routine stocking.
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available in assigned work areas by performing inventory and routine stocking.
