About The Position

The Medical Technologist uses the laboratory process to safely perform laboratory procedures. Working assignments are determined by the workload of laboratory tests to be done. Follows departmental procedures and policies that reflect the services provided by the laboratory. Operates and maintains laboratory instruments. The technologist will be assigned up to 40 hours a week and will rotate between day and night shifts according to the needs of the unit and staff. The medical technologist is expected to function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization. Must be able to address problems with instruments and not depend on someone else to resolve the problem. Will be responsible to assist with orientation, preceptorship, and management of personnel assigned to unit. Must be able to work and relate in a professional, non-defensive manner with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors. Attendance to yearly mandatory education requirements is non-negotiable and will be the responsibility of the employee to arrange and attend sessions. Must be willing to perform any duty within scope of medical technologist as requested by laboratory manager or director.

Requirements

  • 6-12 months of clinical education acceptable through NAACLS to the CAHEA of American Medical Association.
  • Ability to perform all phases of the job at a satisfactory level within 4 months or 130 days.
  • Current MT Certification or eligible for certification by a nationally recognized agency such as ASCP, NCA, or equivalent.
  • Generalist certification required within 2 years of employment.
  • Maintains CMP if applicable.
