About The Position

Lubbock Heart & Surgical Hospital is seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist to join their team. This position is part of a physician-owned hospital that values its employees and fosters a positive, team-oriented work environment. The hospital specializes in cardiac, orthopedic, nephrology, urology, and general medical patients, with a focus on surgical procedures. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university; Medical Technology degree preferred.
  • Experience preferred MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP) or CLS (NCA), or other applicable national certification.
  • If certification is not complete and/or current at time of hire, it must be done within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • Ability to perform complex, advanced clinical procedures and to effect appropriate modifications to existing procedures.
  • Ability to independently analyze, verify, and assess clinical and/or laboratory data.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately performs correct blood collection procedures using a variety of standard equipment and ensures timely and appropriate transportation to the laboratory.
  • Identifies patients and labels specimens correctly and legibly according to departmental policy.
  • Processes, labels, and stores specimens appropriately for subsequent testing.
  • Performs laboratory procedures, reports and evaluates test results in all laboratory areas ensuring accuracy, reliability, and validity of results through application of clinical knowledge and training.
  • Performs testing with respect to quality and timeliness.
  • Demonstrates awareness of and compliance with the laboratory record keeping, test resulting and report handling policies.
  • Understands quality control policies and demonstrates skills required to perform quality control procedures and evaluate quality control results.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate, troubleshoot and maintain instrumentation, perform calibration, and participate in technical and operational problem solving.
  • Documents and reports concerns according to lab policies.
  • Effectively uses a variety of computer systems and programs.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure that patient rights are protected.
  • Promotes positive morale and team work by interacting effectively with members of the laboratory, and other service areas of the hospital and external customers.
  • Orients, mentors, and teaches clinical laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques to new employees or co-workers as applicable.
  • Participates in staff meetings, continuing education and mandatory in-services.
  • Complies with all safety and regulatory practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
