About The Position

Saint Alphonsus Medical Center is seeking a full-time Medical Technologist to work the night shift. This position involves performing, recording, and reviewing quality control, verifying specimen integrity, and conducting various laboratory tests on human specimens. The role requires accurate reporting of test results, including critical values, and performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. The Medical Technologist will also be responsible for monitoring and maintaining adequate supply inventory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a closely related field of study or foreign equivalent.
  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, record, and review scheduled QC (quality control).
  • Take immediate corrective action when QC data is outside established limits.
  • Verify specimen labeling, integrity, and suitability before performing testing.
  • Accurately perform low, medium, and high complexity testing procedures according to established protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Report test results accurately and appropriately report critical test results to physician, nursing station, or physician office according to established protocol.
  • Perform and record routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Recognize and document poor instrument performance and take appropriate action independently.
  • Monitor supply inventory and take appropriate action to ensure that needed supplies are readily available.
  • Perform lab testing on human specimens in all areas of the lab, including hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, serology, molecular, microbiology, and transfusion medicine.
