About The Position

As part of our Laboratory team, the Medical Lab Technologist will perform work related to the diagnosis and treatment of medical disorders, evaluating patient recovery through preparing specimens, running/performing tests, analyzing, reporting, and recording test results. Performs a variety of microscopic, bacteriologic and/or chemical diagnostic laboratory tests, conducts advanced procedures specific to a particular laboratory section (Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology). Your experience and the professional level of knowledge in Medical Technology that is needed to acquire expertise in the operation of equipment and the performance of clinical diagnostic testing procedures. Requirements

  • 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Must include 16 semester hours in biology including one semester in microbiology and 16 semester hours in chemistry including one semester in organic or biochemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the baccalaureate degree.
  • MLS or MT certification by an a nationally accredited organization, such as ASCP.
  • Certification as a Molecular Biology Technologist MB/ASCP or MDxT/AAB.
  • Three to six months of experience to acquire a professional level of knowledge in Medical Technology and to acquire expertise in the operation of equipment and the performance of clinical diagnostic testing procedures.

  • Certification as a professional Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT-ASCP or MT-AAB, or MT/AMT) or an equivalent in area of specialty, Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) (ASCP)

Responsibilities

  • Perform work related to the diagnosis and treatment of medical disorders, evaluating patient recovery through preparing specimens, running/performing tests, analyzing, reporting, and recording test results.
  • Perform a variety of microscopic, bacteriologic and/or chemical diagnostic laboratory tests.
  • Conduct advanced procedures specific to a particular laboratory section (Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology).
  • Operate the laboratory computer (LIS) for functions authorized by security code access, including entering orders and results, distributing results, inquiring of results, correcting, revising, or updating incomplete information.
  • Perform moderate to high complexity level testing in designated laboratory sections under appropriate supervision.
  • Record all tests performed by entering test date, patient name/number, name of test, and test results in the laboratory computer under personal identification/code number and security access.
  • Adhere to guidelines for result entry regarding delta checks, panic values, and repeat testing.
  • Make specific comments on specimen condition or result variance when necessary and inform the Medical Technologist.
  • Expedite indicated test reporting (e.g., STAT) and notify appropriate nursing personnel or physician.
  • Complete proper Quality Control functions of the section, instrumentation, and procedures being performed.
  • Maintain corrective action logs when indicated and inform appropriate personnel of potential problems or corrective action.
