About The Position

The Medical Technologist performs professional laboratory work following established clinic procedures and performs laboratory tests on patient specimens for medical diagnosis. This role is crucial in assisting clinic physicians in making medical diagnoses by accurately performing and reporting in-house laboratory testing procedures. The technologist is responsible for maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of lab testing, ensuring adequate supplies, keeping equipment operational, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. They also contribute to quality assurance through proficiency testing and maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct, adhering to all relevant regulations like OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a health-related or scientific field.
  • One year experience as a clinical Medical Technologist.
  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Florida State License.
  • Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.
  • Two years experience as a clinical Medical Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory tests on patient specimens for medical diagnosis.
  • Assists the clinic physician in making a medical diagnosis by accurately performing and reporting all in-house laboratory testing procedures.
  • Identifies and labels specimens correctly.
  • Reports STAT and critical results to the provider or MA.
  • Maintains adequate laboratory supplies.
  • Keeps equipment in operational condition.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly laboratory work area.
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly statistical reports for analyzer QC.
  • Communicates effectively with office staff.
  • Maintains quality assurance of the Laboratory by performing proficiency testing.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings and education programs.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and professional conduct.
  • Maintains compliance with OSHA and CLIA standards and any other regulations or guidelines for the clinical setting.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with HIPAA.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
