About The Position

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Hospital Authority d/b/a Atrium Health is seeking Medical Technologists for their Core Lab. This full-time position involves working in the Chemistry or Hematology areas, preparing reagents, maintaining supplies, and managing inventory. The role requires exercising clinical judgment, problem-solving test systems, troubleshooting equipment issues, and adhering to quality assurance guidelines. Responsibilities also include assisting with procedure revisions, maintaining documentation for accreditation, and communicating effectively shift-to-shift. Participation in staff meetings, task forces, and competency assessment programs is expected. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry or related field or foreign equivalent.
  • Must be certified or eligible for certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/IMLS) or Technologist in Microbiology (M) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • All hires must consent to a drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare reagents, maintain an adequate supply of materials for test procedures and manage inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste/expense.
  • Exercise clinical judgment in assessing priorities while identifying, problem solving and offering solutions to test systems through the appropriate department channels, i.e. contact hotline to troubleshoot with a specialist when necessary to resolve the issue or set-up service when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and follow testing and policies by adherence to quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area, documenting corrective action to any non-conforming event.
  • Assist with review and revision of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, adhering to all regulatory requirements for various authorities, including but not limited to CAP, TJC, OSHA.
  • Maintain clear, real-time communications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues, concerns and problems which may affect patient care of the operation of the department.
  • Participate in planning and implementing change through participation in staff meetings, task forces or projects.
  • Participate in competency assessment program, where qualified.
