About The Position

This position involves performing laboratory tests and reporting results accurately and efficiently. The Medical Technologist will be responsible for validating test results in the Laboratory Information System, performing LIS functions, and ensuring quality control for all testing. They will also manage laboratory supplies, troubleshoot instrument issues, and prepare samples and reagents. In the absence of a supervisor, this role may temporarily assume supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or related scientific field.
  • ASCP registry, registry eligible, or equivalent registry (AMT, NCA, or CLS).
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of laboratory science.
  • Minimal computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory tests and reports results with appropriate documentation in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, complying with laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Validates test results in the Laboratory Information System for accurate report generation for physician review.
  • May enter data directly into the computer system.
  • Performs all LIS functions relative to the scope of responsibility, including worklists, outstanding reports, and patient registration.
  • Performs quality control for all testing and assures results meet established criteria before releasing.
  • Recognizes factors that may affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action.
  • Reports low supply inventory to appropriate staff and ensures uninterrupted testing by informing personnel when supplies fall below par level.
  • Recognizes instrument or equipment failures, evaluates problems, and takes appropriate action to troubleshoot or contact internal/external individuals for corrective action.
  • Prepares samples appropriately for testing.
  • Prepares and labels stains, reagents, and stock solutions according to laboratory protocol.
  • Maintains glassware and other materials necessary for performing clinical laboratory tests.
  • May temporarily assume supervisory responsibility of a section during the absence of the supervisor.
