The Medical Technologist or Technician ensures that all necessary steps are taken to provide that the quality of work performed is within the guidelines of clinical variance and acceptability. This role involves specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results while adhering to laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance. The technologist must recognize and verify questionable patient results, correct errors immediately, and prioritize patient testing. They are also responsible for performing preventive maintenance on instruments, identifying and documenting problems that may affect test results, and ensuring the proper handling and rotation of reagents and supplies. Maintaining a clean work area, adhering to safety procedures, and collecting specimens as needed are also key functions. The role requires providing excellent service to internal and external customers and performing other assigned tasks.
