About The Position

The James West Campus Laboratory provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria. The James West Campus Laboratory staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation and assists with bone marrow procedures. The James West Campus Laboratory provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students. The James Outpatient laboratory is staffed 24 hours 5 days a week, with some on-call rotating holidays and Saturdays. The medical laboratory technologists perform routine automated and manual procedures, verify and report test requests and results. They handle phone inquiries regarding patient results, specimen collection and testing frequency. Oncology staff uses the laboratory computer system to review reports and call critical values to various healthcare professionals. The James West Campus Laboratory staff performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. Medical laboratory technologists work under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, or biological science with Medical Technician certification.
  • Must obtain Medical Technology certification within one year from the date of hire.
  • Meets mandatory hospital education and health surveillance requirements.
  • Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and calls critical values to various healthcare professionals.
  • Performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation.
