About The Position

Medical Technologist (MT) Supervisors oversee the operation of the ECU Health Department of Pathology during times when the ECU Health lab managers are not on site. The MT Supervisor serves as the General Supervisor as defined by CLIA-88 Federal Regulations. As a MT Supervisor, you will provide supervision of specimen acquisition, transport, computer staff, and tech areas. You will monitor staffing, including reviewing schedules to detect staffing problems and monitoring the triage of personnel on breaks and meal periods. Maintaining effective communication within and between shifts, monitoring the quality of service on evening and night shifts, and aiding in the evaluation of personnel in concert with the Section Managers and Medical Staff are key responsibilities. You will also aid the Education Coordinator with inservicing of personnel on the evening shift. Ensure that hospital resources are used efficiently and effectively, and may supplement the technical staff at the bench when appropriate. You will notify the laboratory administrator, section managers, and pathologists of unusual problems and ensure that laboratory and hospital personnel policies are enforced. Assist in the coordination of disaster situations and aid in the orientation of staff. Aid in the evaluation of personnel for clinical ladder promotions and assist with troubleshooting problems in the tech departments. Monitor the safety of the working environment and refer suggestions and observations to the safety committee. Help manage complaints from the nursing staff and medical staff about pathology services, and pass this information on to the laboratory administrator and management staff. May be responsible for selected computer operation functions, as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelors degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree is also acceptable.
  • 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.
