About The Position

This role involves performing laboratory tests and reporting results accurately and efficiently in compliance with laboratory policies. The Medical Technologist will validate test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to ensure accurate reports for physician review and may directly enter data into the computer system. Key responsibilities include managing LIS functions, performing quality control, monitoring and reporting low supply inventory, troubleshooting instrument and equipment issues, preparing samples and reagents, and potentially assuming supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or related scientific field.
Training and qualifications of all personnel trained outside of the US must be evaluated to determine equivalency to an education obtained in the United States. The equivalency evaluation must be performed by a nationally recognized organization, such as NACES and AICE.
ASCP registry, registry eligible, or equivalent registry (AMT, NCA, or CLS).
Knowledge of principles and practices of laboratory science.
Minimal computer skills.

Responsibilities

Performs laboratory tests and reports results with the appropriate documentation, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with laboratory policies and procedures.
Validates test results in the Laboratory Information System in order for accurate reports to be generated for physician review.
Performs all LIS functions relative to the scope of her/his responsibility to include worklists, outstanding reports, patient registration, etc.
Performs quality control for all testing and assures that results meet established criteria before releasing test results.
Recognizes factors that may affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action.
Reports low supply inventory to appropriate staff and ensures uninterrupted testing by informing appropriate personnel when supplies fall below par level.
Recognizes instrument or equipment failures and evaluates problems, taking appropriate action to troubleshoot or to contact internal or external individuals for corrective action.
Prepares samples appropriately for testing.
Prepares and labels stains, reagents, and stock solutions used in the processing of specimens according to laboratory protocol.
Maintains glassware and other materials necessary for the performance of clinical laboratory tests.
May temporarily assume supervisory responsibility of section during the absence of the supervisor.
