About The Position

This position is for a Medical Technologist (MT) - Registered or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - Registered at the Capitol Clinic Laboratory. It is a full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) position with hours from Monday-Friday, 1:30pm-10:00pm. Occasional weekends and an evening shift differential for hours worked after 5:30pm are part of the schedule. The role involves performing laboratory procedures as ordered by a provider, working as a generalist in Chemistry, Hematology, and Urinalysis. Responsibilities include performing lab tests, quality control, troubleshooting, maintenance, specimen collection, and providing technical support to MLTs, providers, and other staff. The MT - Registered works under the general supervision of the Medical Laboratory Services Manager, Medical Technologist – Chief and/or Medical Technologist – Lead. The MLT position has similar responsibilities under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, Chief Medical Technologist and/or Medical Technologist - Lead. The department offers a stable work schedule, a strong sense of community, increased access to leadership, and limited weekend and holiday work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology, Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science or related science.
  • Valid certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT) or valid certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Technologist in Microbiology (ASCP), with certification as a Medical Lab Technician (ASCP) or valid certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Technologist in Chemistry (ASCP), with certification as a Medical Lab Technician (ASCP) or valid certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Technologist in Hematology (ASCP), with certification as a Medical Lab Technician (ASCP).
  • Possession of or eligibility for a valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certificate.
  • Employee must obtain certification within four (4) months of employment.
  • Knowledge of current laboratory safety and hygiene protocols.
  • Knowledge and ability to accurately perform tests.
  • Knowledge of quality control testing procedures and practices.
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to be culturally sensitive and work with a diverse patient population.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and use computer-based applications such as MS Office, electronic medical record systems and laboratory related applications.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn HIPAA requirements.
  • Knowledge of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) of 1988 and requirements to keep GHC-SCW laboratories in compliance.
  • Ability to be on-call every other week to provide support to laboratory operations.
  • Ability to provide own transportation to various work locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with EPIC is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Performing laboratory procedures as ordered by a provider.

  • Performing quality control, troubleshooting, and maintenance functions.
  • Collection of specimens.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Provision of technical support to Medical Laboratory Technicians, providers, and other GHC-SCW internal staff.
