About The Position

Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center, Lab Hartford CT Trinity Health Of New England is looking for a Certified Medical Technologist to join our team of mission-driven Laboratory professionals, located at Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, CT. Our vision is to provide state-of-the-art healthcare to those within our local communities, creating a positive impact for each individual that walks through our doors. You would be responsible to develop, implement, coordinate and maintain programs in order to bring testing closer to the patient, to provide faster turnaround times for treatment, and to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science required
  • ASCP, CLS or NCA certification required
  • 3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience required
  • Must demonstrate general working knowledge and competence within an open laboratory environment.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and speak, read and write the English language.
  • Must be comfortable using computer hardware and lab information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with administrators, colleagues and physicians.
  • Evaluates requests for new POC testing, including feasibility study of clinical necessity and cost impact.
  • Presents findings and cost analysis to Lab administration for approval.
  • Establishes criteria for vendor bidding and collaborates with Supply Chain Department to develop and negotiate contracts.
  • Selects and evaluates new POC testing devices for accuracy and precision, cost, ease of use, etc.
  • Submit selected devices for trial use in patient- care areas.
  • Provides technical support to patient care areas.
  • Implements, monitors and troubleshoots malfunctioning analyzers/monitors or various POC testing devices.
  • Participates as a member of the Clinical Laboratory Team.
  • Consistently demonstrates flexibility, objectivity and adaptability.
  • Contributes new ideas to improve laboratory operations, policies and procedures and for meeting HVMA business goals.
  • Participates in projects, as assigned.
  • Provides all POC training for patient care providers, including initial instruction and yearly validation.
  • Maintain records and a data base for competency.
  • Develops policies and procedures related to POC testing.
  • Investigates, procures and disseminates information regarding manufacturer guidelines and federal, and CAP regulations.
  • Promotes a continuous learning environment by providing education and guidance to physicians and staff as required.
  • Participates in continuing education whenever possible.
  • Establishes and monitors quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) programs involving POC testing.
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation agencies and federal regulations.
  • Spearheads biannual CAP site surveys for POC testing.
  • Understanding in the operation/maintenance of Lab equipment, computer-based applications (email, and standard applications such as Microsoft Office).
  • Demonstrates problem solving, conflict resolution, and positive communication through teamwork.
