About The Position

This is a PRN position for a Medical Technologist or MLT in Hematology, working the 2nd shift. The role involves performing laboratory tests, preparing and issuing blood components, assisting with sample collection and transport, handling hazardous materials, managing inventory, and potentially supervising/training lower-level technicians. The position requires operating complex laboratory instruments and instructing others on their use. The schedule details indicate shifts will vary over first, second, and third shifts, with a requirement to work at least one shift per pay period. The specific shift for this role is 2nd shift, 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with rotating holidays and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) Medical Technologist program, five years' clinical lab experience, or two years' clinical lab experience with Medical Lab Tech (MLT) certification.
  • Medical Technologist (MT) ASCP certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as Medical Technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and provides accurate laboratory test results on human patients.
  • Prepares and issues blood components for patient transfusions.
  • Assists in the collection and transport of patient samples from the clinics to laboratory sections.
  • Handles hazardous materials in accordance with regulations to ensure safe working environment.
  • Requisitions and maintains inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment as needed for laboratory operations.
  • Supervises, trains, and reviews the work of students and lower-level technicians engaged in clinical laboratory work.
  • Operates complex specialized laboratory instruments; instructs other personnel in the use and operations of these instruments.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
