About The Position

Cleveland Clinic's Mercy Hospital, now a full member of the Cleveland Clinic Health System, is seeking a Medical Technologist, Med Lab Technician, or Lab Technician to join their Lab Microbiology department. This role involves performing and interpreting tests at all complexity levels, utilizing understanding of laboratory science theories and techniques to aid in patient care decisions. The position offers opportunities for extensive hands-on experience with leading researchers and specialists. The caregiver will work evenings from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with weekend and holiday requirements. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Chemical, Biological, Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution OR meet the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clauses
  • Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided
  • Education outside of the United States requires diploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from an HHS approved agency or nationally recognized organization such as NACES or AICE.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or certification eligible from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)

Responsibilities

  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness as it pertains to specific job duties.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Assume responsibility for and take action regarding any quality control or quality assurance issues as it pertains to specific job duties.
  • Maintain instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Assume responsibility for good documentation practices and maintain clear and legible records.
  • Perform proficiency testing in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.
  • Assume responsibility for participation in continuing education, professional development and required annual competency assessment.
  • Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director.
  • Function as an educator and provide instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols and the application of laboratory test protocols to students, employees, residents, etc.
