About The Position

East Side Clinical Laboratory, a leader in the medical laboratory industry and a Great Place to Work certified employer, is seeking a medical technologist for a full-time position in their Main Lab facility in East Providence, Rhode Island. Requirements

  • Active ASCP Certification (required in RI)
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technologist – Bachelor’s Degree in a Science or
  • Medical Laboratory Technician – Associates Degree in a Science
  • Must be able to work independently in a methodical and organized fashion

Responsibilities

  • Performs, reviews, and reports laboratory tests to assist in diagnosing and treating patients.
  • Operates equipment and employs manual test methods using education and training.
  • Performs quality assurance and control procedures in adherence with standard operating procedures, federal, state, and CAP regulations.
  • Recognizes the difference between potential pathogens and normal flora for all specimen types, including understanding media, atmosphere, and temperature requirements.
  • Conducts quality control measures on all laboratory tests, follows protocol for running controls, and accepts/verifies results.
  • Evaluates controls, recognizes discrepant control results, and advises Supervisor as needed.
  • Records and files all data obtained.
  • Completes scheduled instrument calibration and maintenance according to established protocol.
  • Independently performs a variety of laboratory procedures, both manual and automated.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the technical and procedural aspects of laboratory testing.
  • Organizes workload to maximize efficiency in processing tests.
  • Analyzes and interprets results obtained within current standards of laboratory accuracy, precision, and acceptability.
  • Enters test results into patient’s file upon completion.
  • Correlates data and reviews for unusual or unreasonable results according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Brings unusual abnormal results to the attention of the departmental supervisor.
  • Performs antimicrobial sensitivity testing and interprets results.
  • Assists in a laboratory aide capacity by obtaining, receiving, and preparing microbiology specimens for planting, planting them, and reviewing specimen acceptability.
  • May assist in training department personnel as requested by the department supervisor.
  • May participate in special projects and studies within the department as assigned by the department supervisor.
  • Analyzes and tests new or improved products and procedures.
  • Makes recommendations to the department on the status of new test procedures and/or products.
  • Orders and obtains supplies necessary to fulfill job assignments.
  • Adheres to company and departmental safety procedures.
  • May be required to explain test results or methodologies to physicians or nursing home staff in the supervisor’s absence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
