About The Position

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Medical Technologist specializing in Microbiology to join our dynamic laboratory team. The ideal candidate will have strong microbiology expertise, a passion for diagnostic excellence, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance and regulatory compliance in a clinical laboratory setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field
  • ASCP certification (or equivalent) as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Microbiology Specialist (SM)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory required
  • Proficiency with microbiology techniques including Gram stains, culture workups, and susceptibility testing
  • Familiarity with microbiology laboratory information systems (LIS) and automated instrumentation (e.g., MALDI-TOF, VITEK, BD BACTEC)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-volume lab environment
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends based on lab needs
  • Commitment to lab safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing on clinical specimens including culture, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of bacteria, fungi, and other organisms
  • Utilize manual and automated microbiology systems and instruments to support diagnostic testing
  • Interpret and validate microbiological results with precision and accuracy
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment in accordance with protocols and safety standards
  • Monitor quality control, calibration, and proficiency testing programs to ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory standards
  • Participate in the development, validation, and implementation of new microbiology testing methods
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and laboratory staff to support clinical decision-making and patient care
  • Assist in training and mentoring new technologists or laboratory assistants
  • Stay current on microbiology practices, pathogens, testing technologies, and infection control guidelines
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
