This full-time position is responsible for performing, evaluating, and monitoring laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols. The role involves selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated, monitoring workflow, and making necessary adjustments to ensure timely completion of work. The Medical Technologist/Technician will evaluate results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness, and follow prescribed policies for reporting and notification. Responsibilities also include performing and documenting calibration, maintenance, and repair of instruments and equipment, recognizing and correcting malfunctions. Quality control and assurance are critical, requiring performance, documentation, and review, with corrective actions taken when necessary. The role ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing, and collects specimens from patients of all age groups. Additionally, the position provides general direction, training, and technical assistance to laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff, and assists in developing education and training protocols. The incumbent will also assist in improving laboratory procedures, policies, and processes, ensuring compliance with accrediting agency standards and supporting CAP Regulatory requirements. Proficiency testing, specialty testing in various lab areas, and providing direct support for critical care departments are key functions. The role requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care.
