About The Position

The Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Technician position is responsible for providing accurate, precise, and timely patient test results essential for the diagnosis and management of human illness. The role involves utilizing both automated and computerized systems, as well as manual methods. Key duties include quality control, instrument operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The position requires handling various body fluids and tissues, such as blood, fecal matter, sputum, urine, and spinal fluid, which may be contaminated with infectious diseases, including HIV and other bloodborne pathogens. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • Registered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or AMT Certification (considered equivalent to ASCP).
  • Completion of all required course work for Bachelor’s degree and completion of ASCP Certification.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Experience in an automated clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Uses critical thinking, academic theory, facilitation and leadership abilities, and advanced customer service skills.
  • Performs complex analysis of all body fluids and tissues.
  • Determines the reliability of all analytic data before releasing as patient measurement for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Interprets information to make judgmental decisions and troubleshoots technical procedure and instruments.
  • Utilizes knowledge of medical correlation of data, laboratory parameters, physiologic factors, medication effects, and specific medical treatments to assess the validity of laboratory data.
  • Uses appropriate testing techniques to evaluate new testing methodologies and practices.
  • Demonstrates safety and infection control practices.
  • Provides mentorship to new lab associates and students.
  • Provides customer service to clinicians and clients, communicating professionally with physician staff office, clinical staff, and all laboratory associates.
  • Communicates with patients and their families, using service recovery when necessary.
  • Performs quality control checks on each procedure, equipment, reagents, stains, etc.
  • Documents and interprets all QC data used by technologists to determine validity of patient results and verify instrument performance.
  • Documents and reviews maintenance logs to assure optimum system performance, guaranteeing valid data and eliminating costly, time-consuming equipment failures.
  • Remains current in field.
  • Trains new employees and students.
  • Maintains competencies and mandatory education requirements (ACE).
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Focuses on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties as a High Reliability Organization (HRO).
