About The Position

Johnson Memorial Health is seeking a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join their team. This role involves performing a variety of complex laboratory tasks, maintaining equipment, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and providing technical guidance to customers. The position requires adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions. The successful candidate will contribute to the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Hospital and perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

MT: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences from an accredited college or university.
MLT: Associate’s degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician required.
MLT: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (or equivalent) required.
Requires experience in Chemistry Laboratory.
Requires experience in Hematology Urinalysis Coag Laboratory.
Requires experience in Blood Bank Laboratory.

Nice To Haves

MT: Completion of a training program in an approved school of medical technology or equivalent applicable experience.
MT: Certification as a Medical Technologist (or equivalent) preferred.
MLT: One year of experience preferred.
Requires experience in Microbiology Laboratory.

Responsibilities

Performs routine and complex assigned tasks in one or more sections of the laboratory.
Provides accurate and timely information to meet the needs of the department’s customers.
Maintains equipment, including scheduled, preventative, and diagnostic maintenance.
Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance activities and hospital operations improvement.
Independently performs quality control procedures, documents results, and investigates/resolves abnormal results.
Evaluates current practice and suggests improvements for productivity and expense reduction.
Assists in the evaluation of new equipment and monitors laboratory supply purchasing and inventory control.
Provides technical guidance to customers regarding laboratory procedures and operations.
Attends designated meetings.
Participates in professional activities and continuing education.
Communicates and supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Hospital.
Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
Performs additional duties as required.
