Medical Technologist Lead / Full-Time Day Shift

About The Position

Performs all duties of a Medical Technologist in the section/shift to which the individual is assigned. In the absence of the section/shift supervisor, performs additional supervisory duties, accepts full responsibility for the respective section/shift production of accurate, timely, laboratory results. Updates procedures, manual checks, quality control of each procedure and of each shift. Oversee the performance of other employees, check linearities, statistics, send data to be evaluated and to be compared with other laboratories. Performs and/or review the CAP surveys of the section. Maintains required standards of accreditation. Assists laboratory administration with troubleshooting incidents, arranging staff coverage, etc. Oversees Point-of-Care program and demonstrates commitment and accountability for implementation, communication, and monitoring of the Compliance Program. Dedicated to meeting the expectations of internal and external customers. Works with customers to identify areas of concerns and to recommend appropriate solutions. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director. Accurately performs all technical procedures on the shift. Coordinates correlation studies, instruments comparisons, linearity studies. Ensures weekly inventory is reviewed and requisition orders are submitted. Correctly documents corrective action whenever controls fall outside of acceptable levels. Correctly evaluate quality data control. Only reports pa tient test results when controls are within acceptable limits. Oversees Point of Care program: Oversees monthly downloading of meters. Statistical report correlation. QC, QA, and other reports are prepared and reviewed on a timely basis. Liaison with nursing staff - for meter access, mainten ance, training and education , experience dates. Communicating clearly, concisely and consistently with nursing, utilizes effective communication skills to anticipate and resolve conflicts. Follows up with vendor as needed. Keeps up with policies and procedures for Point of Care. Maintains knowledge base of Point of Care standards as it pertains to Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. Ensures that QC and corrective action policies are followed by the staff . Ensures that the critical value policy is followed by the staff . Investigates any unsolved QC problems and discusses them with the Section Supervisor and/or Lab Director. Able to supervise the operations of the laboratory in the absence of a supervisor Demonstrates problem solving abilities to maintain the smooth operation of the laboratory . Review s technical work performed and verifies that it meets standards for correctness and completeness . Reviews maintenance records and corrective action logs to ensure that the staff is complying with policies and procedures. Ensures that work is completed within expected timeframes . Follow s laboratory policies for notification of critical value results within expected timeframe. Follows laboratory policies for reviewing and commenting on delta values. Troubleshoots equipment when the staff has been unable to correct a problem and obtain assistance from the hotline or manufacturer when an instrument problem cannot be solved. Begins back up procedures promptly when downtime adversely affects turnaround time and promptly notifies nursing personnel. Able to do inventory and order supplies through material management system . Notifies the laboratory director and/or pathologist when turnaround times are not met . A ppropriately counsels' staff when policies and procedures are not followed and forwards documentation to the Laboratory Director. Orients and instructs new employees or students as . Print monthly or as needed TAT reports from LIS and other Performance Improvement Reports. Supervises phlebotomists work and assist in specimen processing area as needed. Performs all the above functions with minimal supervision and optimal accuracy and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a bachelor's in science in an accredited college and/or university with a chemical, physical, or biologic science as a major subject and minimum one year training in a clinical laboratory of a hospital accredited by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or a B.S in Medical Laboratory, or an A.A in Medical Laboratory Science with a full semester of hospital training.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Medical Technologist in all specialties.
  • Current Florida License as a Medical Technologist in all specialties.
