About The Position

The Medical Technologist 3 performs a variety of complex and special microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Moreover, the incumbent facilitates quality assurance and instrument maintenance. This role also provides processing of cellular therapy products intended for infusion to patients, transports cell therapy products between clinical sites and the Cellular Therapy Laboratory, and receives cellular therapy products, documenting and processing or storing them as required. The position involves performing audits and preparing quality and assessment reports, assisting in compliance applications and inspection readiness, and participating in the development of procedures for clinical trials. The Medical Technologist 3 will also assist with feasibility questionnaires, engage in site-initiation visits, train staff on clinical trial protocols, prepare work instructions, ensure necessary equipment and materials are in place for study subjects, provide sponsors and monitors with required documents, assist with monitor visits, and help with study close-out activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • A valid Florida Medical Technologist License
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies identification of specimen with physicians’ orders, prepares specimens for testing, and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
  • Analyzes results of testing and interprets abnormal or unusual results.
  • Researches and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers all data and testing results to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
  • Calibrates equipment, orders supplies, and maintains inventory of relevant forms and materials.
  • Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action while supporting laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems.
  • Administers quality-control tests, according to procedure, and maintains appropriate data recording.
  • Assumes lead duties and acts as a resource to staff.
  • Orients and trains employees on laboratory techniques and operations.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Provide processing of cellular therapy products intended for infusion to patients.
  • Transport cell therapy products between clinical sites and Cellular Therapy Laboratory.
  • Receive cellular therapy products and document and process or store as required.
  • Perform audits and prepare quality and assessment reports for review by Laboratory Director, as needed.
  • Assist in compliance applications and inspection readiness, as needed.
  • Participates with the CTL Director on the development of procedures for participation in clinical trials.
  • Assists Director with feasibility questionnaires and engages in site-initiation visits with sponsors.
  • Assists Director with training CTL staff on clinical trial protocols and prepares work instructions.
  • Reads and understands trial manuals and ensures equipment and materials are in place for study subjects.
  • Ensure sponsors and monitors have required documents and assists Director with monitor visits.
  • Assists Director with study close-out activities.
