About The Position

The Medical Technologist 2 (H) performs microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Moreover, the incumbent facilitates quality assurance and instrument maintenance. This role analyzes samples from clinical patient samples using advanced instrumentation and sample preparation techniques. The Medical Technologist 2 will review patient and quality control results, analyze samples to detect and quantify drugs, narcotics, poisons, or other controlled substances, and utilize various software platforms for instrument operation and data management. The position also involves troubleshooting instrument issues, participating in SOP revisions and instrument verifications, assisting with quality assurance and control functions, training other staff, and aiding in the validation of new methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Current Florida Medical Technologist License
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies identification of specimen with physicians’ orders, prepares specimens for testing, and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
  • Analyzes results of testing and interprets abnormal or unusual results.
  • Researches and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers all data and testing results to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
  • Calibrates equipment, orders supplies, and maintains inventory of relevant forms and materials.
  • Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action while supporting laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems.
  • Administers quality-control tests, according to procedure, and maintains appropriate data recording.
  • Assists with orienting and training employees on laboratory techniques and operations.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Analyzes samples from clinical patient samples.
  • Performs tests on routine and complex samples using LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and GC-MS/MS instrumentation and SPE and LLE sample preparation techniques.
  • Reviews patient sample results and all QC results.
  • Analyzes patient samples to detect and quantify drugs, narcotics, poisons, or other controlled substances using instrumental chemical techniques, including (but not limited to) gas and liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
  • Utilizes software platforms such as ChemStation® and MassHunter® to operate instruments and Sunquest, UChart, and Microsoft Office.
  • Performs troubleshooting and diagnoses instrument issues.
  • Participates in SOP revisions and instrument verifications.
  • Assists with laboratory quality assurance and quality control functions, including QC tracking, routine laboratory duties, and preparing control samples.
  • Trains Clinical Toxicology 1 position in instrumentation and new assays.
  • Assists with the validation of new methods under the supervision of the laboratory supervisor.
