About The Position

The VA Bedford Medical Center currently has a shortage of Medical Technicians (Phlebotomists). The Contractor will furnish two (2) FTE Phlebotomists to provide onsite phlebotomy and specimen processing services to eligible VA beneficiaries. Services will be delivered in alignment with laboratory services typical of a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility. The standard of care must meet or exceed nationally recognized standards, including Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines.

Requirements

Must have three (3) years of recent phlebotomy experience.
Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
Must be technically proficient in the skills required to fulfill the government’s requirements.
Must be able to provide documentation upon request (to the CO/COR) verifying current and ongoing competency, skills, and any required certification and/or licensure related to services performed.

Responsibilities

Perform patient phlebotomy for Inpatient ward rounds, Inpatient and outpatient collections, Emergency Department (ED) collections, and STAT, ASAP, and timed draws.
Perform specimen processing, including send-out preparation.
Positively identify patients prior to specimen collection.
Positively identify samples prior to testing and/or aliquoting.
Safeguard electronic and paper patient information in accordance with VA and applicable privacy/security requirements.
Identify, document, and resolve collection and/or processing issues.
Provide patient-centered care.
Deliver service professionally to avoid complaints from stakeholders, customers, and patients.
