About The Position

The Medical Surgical Technician - Coast - Medical Surgical role focuses on maintaining a professional image and providing excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. The position involves recognizing the normal signs of aging and understanding the assessment, treatment, and care requirements for specific age groups. Key responsibilities include maintaining patient and unit hygiene and cleanliness, promoting a comfortable and safe environment, and performing or assisting with nutritional and hydration interventions. The technician will identify and communicate appropriate patient data to the interdisciplinary team, collect and record patient-related data through direct care tasks, and demonstrate continued professional growth. The role also includes utilizing health and safety measures, performing general transportation and courier duties, respecting patient confidentiality, and performing standard room checks. Understanding the appropriate storage and safety of medications is also a key aspect of this role.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a nursing assistant program or minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical setting.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • In lieu of high school diploma or GED, experience in a related field may be considered.
  • Degrees: High School Diploma/GED

  • Recognizes the normal signs (growth and development of aging) of the patient population served.
  • Understands the requirements of assessment, treatment and care of the specific age group(s).
  • Initiates and maintains the hygiene/cleanliness of the patients, the patient’s environment, and the unit environment.
  • Promotes and fosters an environment of comfort and safety for patients and visitors.
  • Performs or assists with performing nutritional/hydration interventions
  • Identifies and communicates appropriate patient data to members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Collects and records patient related data through the performance of direct care tasks.
  • Demonstrates continued professional growth through setting goals and participating in evidence based tasks.
  • Utilizes appropriate health and safety to protect both the patient and staff.
  • Performs general transportation and courier duties as directed.
  • Respect confidentiality of patient records/facility operations.
  • Uses discretion when discussing patient matters.
  • Performs standard room checks (stocking of gloves, changing needle boxes, assessing call light function)
  • Understands and recognizes appropriate storage and safety of medications (such as large volume IV's, alcohol, saline, medications in prepackaged kits).
