About The Position

BioLife Plasma Services is seeking a Medical Support Specialist who will use their clinical assessment and patient care expertise to ensure donor safety and support the plasma donation process. This role involves determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operations and the Center Physician for medical issues, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and supporting environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B), Advanced (EMT-A), Intermediate (EMT-I), and Paramedic (EMT-P), Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN), and Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

  • Familiarity with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions as outlined in SOPs and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable findings, medical or technical issues, and donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health/ER is required, referring to EHS guidance.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
