About The Position

The Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist carries out the credentialing function for providers seeking medical staff membership and clinical privileges with Hartford HealthCare. The role processes applications according to hospital-specific bylaws and regulatory standards, coordinates timely review and approval, and maintains credentialing records and related data. The position interacts regularly with applicants, medical staff leadership, regulatory agencies, and healthcare facilities. This is a 100% in-person role in Wethersfield, Connecticut, with a Monday–Friday schedule.

Requirements

Associate’s degree required.
3–5 years of experience in a hospital administrative support role.
Willingness to obtain CPCS certification within one year.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
3 or more years of experience with medical staff credentialing strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Process medical staff applications in accordance with hospital-specific bylaws and regulatory standards.
Prioritize applications in the queue to ensure timely processing and approval by leadership groups.
Maintain the Medical Staff Credentialing database and interact with external databases.
Secure documents for primary source verification.
Produce and respond to general correspondence.
Prepare files for medical staff leadership review and identify flags in applications.
Process requests for temporary privileges and reappointment applications.
Track expirables, including licenses and registrations.
Notify departments and units of new providers.
Respond to verification inquiries concerning current or former medical staff members.
Interact regularly with applicants, medical staff leadership, regulatory agencies, and healthcare facilities.
Maintain and communicate thorough knowledge of medical staff bylaws.
